Marianne Peron-Doise, CRIMARIO Strategic Advisor, attended a workshop on “Governance in the Indian Ocean” organised in Singapore by the Institute of South Asia Studies from 28 to 30 November 2016. It examined the evolving dynamics in the Indian Ocean, the politics and economics of maritime cooperation, the potential for blue economy projects and innovations and the institutions that resolve and mediate conflicts. The workshop provided opportunity to present CRIMARIO and how it fits in the post piracy architecture in the Indian Ocean and contributes to strengthen maritime governance.
Following the workshop, a visit to the premises of ReCAAP was held on 1st December. The meeting focused on exchanges of views related to maritime security and capacity building in the South-East Asia and Indian Ocean area. Both sides mentioned its keen interest to stay in touch and welcomed regular interactions in order to share lessons learned and experiences in the field of training, interagency cooperation and information sharing.
